Planning

Planning for production readiness

As of November 2024 (v0.5.0) these are the steps which we think are needed before StarMod and StarLight can be used in real live setups. If you have any additions, please log an isue at Github StarLight issues or contact us on Discord/StarLight

StarBase

  • Presets: Must: Settings of every module can be saved and retrieved. Should: Schdule a sequence of presets
  • New UI: Must: each module on a seperate screen (instead of multiple modules all at once). Should: variables of modules can be rerouted to certain areas of the screen (e.g. preview on every screen, save on header, uptime on footer...) - preview can be found in current builds
  • Ethernet tested (which device ?)

StarLight

  • Presets (see StarBase) for Effects
  • Art-Net fully tested and up to date
  • More palettes? Audio reactive
  • More effects (which ones)
  • Sound reactive ?

General

  • Documentation. Not clear, missing ?

Development

  • onValue refactored
  • Architecture ?
  • Development process ?
  • GitHub branches ?
  • StarBase vs StarLight ?

  • Testers are wanted to test OTA updates, and to follow the Getting Started and deliver feedback.
  • Tests can be performed on StarBase or StarLight. StarLight is the most feature rich test.
  • Release 0.0.0 has been added in GitHub repos of StarBase and StarLight. You can download bins there.
  • Different target boards supported, esp32, esp32s3, esp32s2, esp32c3, pico32
  • Some work has been done on StarDocs documentation but still far from complete and sometimes described in a terse style. Improving the docs by forking and submitting pull requests is highly appreciated
  • Please also review the contribute page for more ways to help advance the project

April 6, 2024: StarMod -> StarBase and StarLight repositories

The LEDs part of ewowi/StarBase has been moved to MoonModules/StarLight. From now on:

  • StarBase is a generic ESP32 platfom without any notion of LEDs
  • StarLight is a fork of StarBase which adds LED functionality on top of it.
  • StarBase can be forked by anyone who wants to build an ESP32 application
  • Forks of StarBase should not change System functionality, changes on that should be done on StarBase:
    • Sys Modules
    • Generic User Modules
    • index.js / html / css
    • platformio.ini
  • The following can be changed on forks:
    • App Modules
    • main.cpp
    • app.js
  • Use Github issues for StarBase or StarLight respectively.
